Requirements Management

Requirements are essential in defining the scope and characteristics of any deliverable. Business rules are an important factor in defining the requirements for business services. But they have more characteristics in common: they are both written statements that should not be ambiguous and that must be properly managed. Why not manage both business rules and requirements in one tool? In this session one of our RuleXpress customers shows how she uses RuleXpress in a pragmatic way and how she has full traceability from source document, to business rule and to system requirement.

Agenda:

RuleXpress to manage requirements by Miranda Shumaker(15 min). As a business analyst Miranda manages both business rules and the requirements based on those business rules in RuleXpress. She will show how she has organized RuleXpress to suit her needs.

Demonstration of RuleXpress by Rik Gerrits (35 min). Illustration of essential capabilities with respect to managing expressions (like requirements, rules & definitions) based on a user defined vocabulary and a user defined metamodel. In this session we focus on how to customize RuleXpress to manage those properties for expressions that are important for you. Finally we will show a customized RuleXpress to support both business rules management and requirements management.

Q & A (10 min).

Technical discussion will be strictly reserved for the final 20 minutes. Bring your managers and business colleagues for the non-technical portion!

Hot-Button Discussion Items:
  • How can I ensure we can record those management properties in RuleXpress that are important to our organization?
  • How can I use RuleXpress to have business experts and systems analyst collaborate?
  • How can I make sure we get our business rules and business requirements right and retain that knowledge in explicit form?
  • How can I manage requirements across projects and map them to implementation details?
